Understand yourself, one part at a time

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a compassionate, evidence-based approach developed by Dr Richard Schwartz that understands the mind as a system of inner "parts." You might recognise these as the part of you that keeps everything together, the part that worries, the part that is hard on you, or the part that carries older, deeper pain.

In IFS, all parts are welcome. Rather than trying to silence or override these voices, we get curious about them — what they are protecting, what they have been through, and what they need. Underneath them all is a core Self: calm, curious, and capable of healing.

IFS is increasingly recognised in clinical research, with studies showing its effectiveness for trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and complex relational wounds. It is also used in several specialist settings, including trauma treatment programmes, medical systems, and community mental health services. The model’s growing evidence base reflects what many clients experience: when parts are understood rather than fought against, genuine change becomes possible.

How we work together

In our sessions we work directly with the parts of you that are showing up - the ones that feel anxious, protective, or overwhelmed, and the ones carrying pain from earlier experiences. We slow down, get curious, and listen to what each part has to say.

This is collaborative and paced to suit you. I bring my integrative training alongside IFS, drawing on imagery, somatic awareness, and relational depth when helpful. The goal is not just symptom relief but a genuinely different relationship with your inner world.

Is IFS right for you?

IFS may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, self-criticism, or low mood

  • Carry relational or developmental trauma

  • Experience intense inner conflict or feel at war with yourself

  • Want to understand yourself more deeply, not just manage symptoms
